What to Expect?
I'm a lover of technique acquisition and turning it into second nature or efficient reactionary movements. Anything I do, think or research is geared towards that goal to the point where I will be, and am, able to feel any instrument, at any dynamic, at any tempo without touching it. This is done through extensive tactile, callisthenic, aural, verbal and mental exercises that I learned overtime.
My study focuses heavily on the balance of the entire individual, both physically and mentally. Whatever we do is first done in the mind and then transferred through the body as actions. If we gain control over our mind, we can fix most, if not all, problems in the body; this also includes understanding and managing the causes and effects of anxiety on our bodies. Gaining awareness of what's going on with both sides helps us develop easier and quicker. This site is broken up into a technique/exercise demonstration page, Inside the Perc Studio, and three blog sections: The Self, dealing with the mind and it's influence on the body, All Natural, exploring efficiency of movement and energy, and Nerd Out, all about the technique behind the performance. Hopefully these will give you more ideas and curiosity about both percussion and music performance in general. Thanks again for reading and please enjoy! |
The PhilosophyClarity of action, unhindered by hesitation and tension. Clarity of intention, free from the clouds of subjective labeling of good bad, right and wrong. When these two are achieved, reaction, choiceless choice, emptiness can be achieved. The logical choice will become a natural reaction. Making these thought processes and reactions habitual is key to having a continuous presence of mind and body within every moment in our craft and in our life. This presence allows us to freely express ourselves, connect with the environments, atmospheres and people we come in contact with, good or bad, and become more available emotionally and in life, more human.
