Yea, Balto is a great movie. The music is great, the story is pretty much on point and historical, the characters and their development are noticeable and it's emotionally engaging. But it also talks about something that I think minorities can relate to specifically, and humanity can relate to as a whole.
Balto is a half breed, dog/wolf. This means that, like Rudolf, the dogs pretty much make fun of or, not like Rudolf, even beat him. To make things worse, it looks like he is the only one of his kind, and he has never met or seen another wolf before. It would appear that he is totally alone and cannot hope to achieve his dream, becoming a sled dog. And so the story goes on until one day he finally meets a wolf and learns to accept himself and not think of his wolf side as a defect but as a strength and a beautiful part of himself. Then gets confidence to do what he always wanted and saves a bunch of children in the process, the end.
So, without getting into a long spiel about issues we face, of course we have to make adjustments to protect ourselves, but we don't however have to accept. Even though situations may control our actions, they cannot control our mind. People in power today are using laws and physical fear to effect the mind, but we have the power to overcome that. Do not let your mind be infected with the lie of normality, or even now, injustice as the norm. Truth is the, not even the norm, but is itself. If truth is allowed to flow, balance naturally will come and we can all be ourselves without worrying about conflict.
The efforts to resolve conflict by means of controlling and normalizing choice and action creates the conflict. All we need is awareness of who we are, accepting that, and seeing that we are all one. If this happened, man that would be so cool.
